Our Principal Trumpet takes centre stage in a performance of this concerto by a student of both Mozart and Salieri. We also feature Gustav Holst in the 150th anniversary of his birth, and a gem of a symphony by Brahms.
Holst - The Perfect Fool
Hummel - Trumpet Concerto
Brahms - Symphony No. 2
Summer House
Our end of season summer concert is always packed with beautiful music to round off our season. This year is no exception. Our horn section introduce us to a work written by the horn player of the Dresden Royal Court Orchestra and inspired by a similarly-named work by Robert Schumann, which he had played in the presence of the composer.
Beethoven - Overture - Egmont
Fauré - Pavane
Hübler - Konzertstück for 4 horns and orchestra
Beethoven - Symphony No. 7
Conductor: Katherine Stonham
Soloists: Bob Shaw, John Page, Judith Stones and Nick Barber
Christmas at home with the HPO
Christmas music galore, old and new, songs from Rowena and carols for you to sing too.
Hall of Fame 2023
We return with another Hall of Fame as the first concert of our 2023-2024 series, but the final performance as part of Kirklees Year of Music 2023 (#kyom23). We are delighted to perform former conductor Arthur Butterworth’s Mill Town almost 20 years to the day since the orchestra gave the debut performance here in the Town Hall. We also feature one of Dvořák’s best-loved symphonies.
Glinka: Overture - Ruslan and Lyudmilla
A Butterworth: Mill Town
Bizet: Jeux d’enfrants (Petite Suite d’Orchestre)
Dvořák: Symphony No. 8
Conductor: Katherine Stonham
